Hi We are of to France soon for the first time and the question is if I have the European Number Plates (the ones with the E.U.stars on the left hand side of the plates) on both the car and caravan do I still need the big G.B.sticker on the both vehicles.

Thanks for any advice.

Derek

I agree with jeepster, however I would still place a GB sticker somewhere on the back of your 'rig' as it will at least alert JF that you are indeed from across the water, and may be a tad unsure of directions etc.

Why have caravans suddenly become part of a "rig" , yet another unwanted Americanism.

You seem pretty sure that 'JF', as you despairingly call him,  will understand what a GB plate is!!!!!  There is no need to put a GB sticker on your car or van if you have the proper EU number plates - thats the whole idea!!! When we went to Switzerland earlier in the year they are perfectly happy with EU plates dispite not being a member of the EU.

When we went to France in July we saw loads of English cars without either the GB number plate or GB stickers. We were suprised by the number of people who just didn't bother, not that I would risk it though.

Goodness me David you'll run out of exclamation marks soon !!!!!!!!!

I'm sure JF knows full well what a GB sticker is.

If I'm driving about here in the UK and I see a national sticker on any vehicle I give the driver a bit more room/time to sort themselves out at junctions as they may be unfamiliar with driving on the wrong side of the road.

I would hope that JF does the same for me when I'm on continental Europe.

I'm fully aware that they are no longer required but I tend to err on the side of road safety
