hopefully last query before our first French adventure first two weeks in September.
We are intending to use municipals etc for our journey down to and back from the south and the Caravan club guide already seems like an invaluable buy. However it offers guidance on a number of sites that "long lead required" for EHU.
Anyone any idea on how long is a long lead? I have a fairly standard 25m lead and am wondering if I need to double up?
thanks

I think that term is probably put in to safeguard themselves. Some pitches will be very close to the EHU bollard others will be at a distance obviously. I have been on such sites but have never had to use an extension. I carry an extra 10mtr one. However I have seen such pitches where the standard 25mtr lead may be to short. As given in the above example. As sites will not be full in Sept I don't think you'll have a problem. But as a safeguard why not just make up an extra length.
We were on a site this year where the family next to us couldn't access the EHU with their 25m lead. First time I've heard of this though. The site was set out on about five different levels. We were on the bottom one and the EHU points were on the tier above so they were a fair distance away. Maybe take extra to be on the safeside but I would't imagine you'll need it, Claire
Thanks everyone. On balance I think I have got quite enough stuff in a small van which doesnt take an enormous payload so I,ll take a chance. If I get completely stuck we can always spend a night on gas and 12V and move on next day.
We have used our long lead many times in France and in this County we always take both with us if you dont take it you will need it and the other way round..
Don't take anything for granted we have a 25 and a 10 m lead and we still had to rent an extra length from the site to reach the post. - Got the rental back when we returned it.
I think you have me thinking again. I,m think my question has now been answered and a "long lead" is longer than 25m. I think I,ll take a 10m extension.
I had forgotten the obvious point that if I dont take one I,ll need it and if I do take one, the fact that I dont need it is no evidence that it was superfluous!!!!!!
We always try to use our 10m lead, it's much easier to unroll and roll, sometimes we need the 25m and on occasion both. Sometimes we just think s0d 1t! and don't bother - particularly if only for 1 night.

But it´s all right now, I learned my lesson well.

I have a 25m lead and thought about getting a 10m lead for when im nearer the hookup but thought how stupid just use the 25m, its a bit of an overkill to have 2 leads i think ,besides how long does it take to wind up the extra 15m of cable .
As I said before - this year we took both the 25 AND the 10 - we left the other 10 at home - we use it from the garage to van. We were still short by 3 ft and needed to hire the extra length.
First 2 weeks in September, you will have a good choice of pitches, and can opt for one within a reasonable distance of the bollards. 25 mtrs will be ample. Honestly!
