We've just bought a Camplet Concorde and are looking for sites in mid to South West France for next summer. Has anybody been to this site in St. Palais sur Mer? ( its in C&CC Carefree brochure) I've got 3 children 4, 8 and 12 so want somewhere that has pool etc but not too noisy in evening. Would appreciate any advice or comments from anyone who's vivited this site. My other option is Les Ecureuils in south Vendee. Really not sure between the two!

Welcome to UKCS. Congratulations on the new TT. I haven't stayed at this site, but at several others in this area, around Royan, and thoroughly recommend it for family holidays. Great beaches, and great weather.

We went there about 5 or 6 years ago. We stayed in a Eurocamp mobile home unit. It's a very nice site in a lovely location.

We went early in the season and the site was quiet. It has a swimming pool which unusually closes for lunch for an hour. But that is because it has a lifeguard and it is their lunchbreak. They also have a shop and pizza parlour, not sure if they have a bar or not though.

It is in a tremendous spot, the beach is over the road, and is not particularly busy. Beach restaurants are nearby too and there is a brilliant zoo just up the road, very good. We had day trips to La Rochelle which is a beautiful old town with fantastic restaurants.

I have fond memories of that site as my son learnt to ride his bike without stabilisers whilst we were there.

I would go back there happily.

I also went to a good one called Sen Yan near Mezos which was also very good, I remember that one too because it rained constantly for 2 weeks.

Hi we stayed here for the first 2 weeks in August this summer.  The site was just across the road from a beach which has a lot of sand at low tide but it was very popular with fishermen.  However, just a 10 minute walk up the coast road there was another really sandy beach which went for miles and miles.  It was cleaned each morning and had lifeguards on duty.

The pool did get crowded at times but it was very clean, and as previoulsy stated it does close for an hour at lunchtime, the lifeguard is always on duty.  One thing to note they are very strict about swimming shorts, while we were there some people, including young children, were not allowed in the pool as they had swimming shorts and not speedos.

There is a small bar on site, the shop didn't much stuff in it, just the basics. There is a take away which does chicken, chips, pizza's plus mussles and other meals such as lasagne. The showers were always hot, in some blocks they had huge showers which had a sink in as well as a large area to dry in. Some of the loos, although not all, are the French style. There is a laundrette as well as table tennis.

Some pitches are quite small, ours had quite a bit of shade which was nice as it did get very hot at times.

It's about a 5 minute drive to St Palais sur Mer which is a really nice town, it had lots of bars and restaurants.  You could walk or cycle there but for us it would have seemed a bit of a hike back if you went for the evening!!

There were lots of Brits and Dutch when we were there and our 12 year old daughter made friends easlity.

We really enjoyed the holiday which we booked through Select Sites who we found to be really helpful.
