Hi There Folks. Just wondering if anyone out there could give us a few pointers, We have been going to France now for the last eight years or so, and have always had a great holiday (apart from the weather this year), For next years trip we are looking at the Ardeche area and just wondering if we could pick a few brains regarding sites, I have looked at the web sites of campingo and campingfrance, but there seems to be dozens and dozens of sites in that area, so just to thin it down a bit dose anyone know of a good site in the Privas/Aubenas area, we tend to go in June, just the two of us in our mid-fifties, so not bothered about all singing-dancing sites, but if we could find one with a good pub and restaurant that would be a big plus. Many thanks in advance for any info.

Not sure if this is quite the right area but can thoroughly recommend Domaine des Plantas. http://campingplantas.franceloc.fr/en/domaine.htm We stayed here in the summer. Had a pitch overlooking the river- really beautiful. There is a lovely river beach a short walk away- safe for swimming. The site was lovely - really well maintained and spotless facilities. Good take away and resteraunt. Two good pool areas and seperate waterslides . Its not a big site and definately not loud. Hardly any other Brits there when we were there in August. Will be returning, Claire
We stopped at Soleil Vivaris at Sampzon about 30 mins drive to aubenas (didnt like Aubenas it was dirty and not upto the usual French town on the pretty scale). Its a Yelloh site but not huge and the pitches were great, its on the banks of the river which was lovely, the kids preferred it to the two pools and it has some tame rapids to keep the infaltables happy. It was a 10 minute drive to the point de Arc (sorry if I'm spelling all this wrong). We couldnt fault the site apart from having no seats on the toilets that is, we will definitely go back. The weather was in the high 20's low 30's for the whole stay so all in all pretty good.It may be a bit far from Aubenas for you but the other sites near Sampzon and Vallon de Arc are worth a look we drove passed some beauties.

Vvgotsky,, Thanks for that, it looks ideal, infact we saw this site when trawling through campingfrance web site and it caught our eye then as a possible, so at the moment it's on a short list of one, again many thanks

We went to Aubenas a couple of years back. We stayed at the Chareyrasse which we liked. The bar and restaurant might not be up to your standards, they weren't really bustling places. The site's nice, and has a pool and the river. It's high enough up the Ardeche for paddling in rockpools and sunning yourselves on the rocks. I seem to recall a good supermarket with a wonderful fish counter, which is probably why I don't remember the restaurant too well.... apart from the memorable "moules evenings".
If Aubenas isn't pretty enough, there's Vals les Bains pu the road with a hot water geyser twice a day in the middle of the park. It's pretty amazing, I had no idea we had them in Europe!

We had a great time when we were there. As we only stayed 2 nights we didn't leave the site at all. Would live to go back and explore the area- roll on next summer, Claire

another vote for Domaine de Plantas although only drawback we found was distance from main Ardeche sites ( gorges etc) we are planning 2008 and may go to the Ardeche again but hope to stay nearer Ruoms.
