We use Durtal as an overnight stop down to the Vendee each year. The owner speaks english - and is very firendly. It is a lovely site, right next to the river - the Chateau looks imposing we have never been in - but worth a look. The campsite is very French - lots of locals from le Mans use the site for weekends etc. and very friendly. This year there was an outdoor cinema the night we where there! It has quite a lot of events thru' the week as well, from boules to moules et frites and yet is very tranquil. Definitely worth a stop. You can also use the local swimming pool just outside the camp as part of the price for a pitch which was about £11 this year I think. Great example of a municipal site.
