We are taking our 12 year old niece skiing this March but I am concerned about the legalities involved. Will a letter of permission from my sister in-law suffice or is there something more official required, any advice please.

No in 2003 they were both nearly 15 but we did take another of her friends in 1999 when they were 10 and the same thing applied just had to take a letter of consent and keep it with all the other documents/ insurances etc,
We've taken friends of our sons since they were about six years old - and always had just a letter signed by their parents. There's a standard pro-forma somewhere on the internet, but basically you just have to say that they consent to you acting as a parent in any sort of incident which might require parental consent.

I flew from Geneva to the UK with my six year old niece last October and all the customs officials required was a letter giving parental consent. You will obviously need her EU Health Card too, just in case. Have a good time.

When we first Took Rosemarie's niece and nephew skiing they were aged 12 and 14. All we ever took was a letter from Rosemarie's brother confirming that we were acting in loco parentis.
