We are looking to spend the second week of our 3 week trip to France in Brittany and I have always thought Benodet looked amazing. I would love to know what others campers think of this area and also any good sites?
I have found Camping du Letty on here and think that looks lovely, although it has no pool but it is right next to the beach?
Does nayone know of a similar site nearby but with a pool? We are not really into the huge commercial sites as our children are small 7 and 4.

About 3 years ago we had a week in the Vendee (warm but stormy), followed by a week in Brittany (cold and wet). We stayed at the Castels site in Quimper but ended up spending most of our time in Benodet - my daughter was 3 at the time and there were great beach activities - zip wires, trampolines etc, boat rides, little white tourist train, fab reasonably priced restaurants etc etc. You need to go to the Casino end of town for all this. I would have no hesitation in recommending it as a resort but I'm afraid I don't really know about the sites - the ones I saw looked pretty packed in. We recommended Benodet to a friend of ours who took his kids and hated it .... but reading between the lines I think it was more that he didn't like the drive from Calais or France as a country rather than the resort in particular..... so, chacun a son gout - we loved it!
I have stayed at Camping Du Poulquer and that was good though it was about 6 years ago. Has Pools and waterslides but not too noisy and is inn easy walking distance of the beach and the town.
We're off to Orangerie de' Lanniron (a Castels site) in August this year, which we have booked through the Caravan Club - which we hope gives it some sort of 'tried & tested approval'.
It is within the ground of a Chateau, on the banks of the river Odet, on the outskirts of Quimper and a short drive from Benodet.
I don't know if it would suit you, but we've picked it out as being just the right measure of activities, facilities etc, - without being too over-commercialised & noisy. It does have a pool, with some new aqua features coming in time for this year, I believe.
In our experience, French family holiday parks are more relaxed and low-key than their British equivalents anyway.

WE stayed at Concarneau http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=6826 which is an easy drive to Benodet, but is of course Concarneau, and therefore different to Benodet. Nice enough as a place, walled town etc., but I think I would prefer Benodet as being a bit more "holidayish". There are a number of holiday parks at Benodet, and I suspect these can get a bit commercial. The Pres Verts is a very nice family run site, the owners are very pleasant types. the pool has no slides, but is large and very well done in Italian marble ---as Madame will tell you if you care to listen.
Difficult one to call, I agree with Liz above, the Casino end of Benodet is the better. Depends how much you value the non commercial type site, and how much travel you are prepared to do day to day. Concarneau is worth a visit, but I never found a decent restaurant there. It is still France, so there are restos around if you look. Places to visit ? Pont Aven is really quaint, Rosporden is a bit special, but for me the absolute "not to be missed" is to take one of the ferry type boats to the Iles de Glenan which is a lagoon about 15 miles of the coast Incredible place out "at Sea" surrounded by sand banks, and if you go , do invest in a ride on the glass bottomed boat-------- It is a long way back if you miss the opportunity. You can see from the map that the whole area has a lot to offer.
If ever you fancy the ex sub-marine pens at Brest, which again is worth a visit, only go on a Sunday. During the week, there are now small industries in the pen area, and they would n't let us into the underground bit during the week "health and safety" reasons apparently there was a lot of welding going on.
You may have read my opinions of Du Letty in Benodet in previous posts and in my review on UKC. I would encourage you that Du Letty is a super campsite for families. The fact that it doesn't have a pool is NOT a problem. We thought that the first time that we were looking around Benodet. The camp is alongside a small river estuary and this is a safe bathing pool at all but the highest of tides.
We went with our family of 5 children (aged 6-14 the first year) and we all LOVED it and returned as both tenters and latterly caravanners. My UKC review details some of the many things to do around Benodet. My advice would be go for Du Letty -it's the best site in Benodet IMHO.
Thanks to everyone...the Du Letty has space for use and they don't need a deposit(?) according to an email they sent so I think we will book that one for a week.
It does look lovely around there.

Hi,
We are off to Benodet too this year.
We are staying at Manoir du Kerlut. It's a Yelloh! Site. Not read many reviews from British, but plenty from Dutch people and they loved it. Site sounds great and under 10's get free drinks, ice creams, crepes and all their entertainment... can't wait!!
We stayed at Benodet a few years age and the town is a lovely place, not far from many other interesting places, liked Quimper. The camp site, Pointe St Giles has changed hands since then, not sure if its as good now. Like many others it was getting overrun with statics.
Du Letty was nearby and sounds right up my street so I think I would plump for that one.
we stayed near du letty four years ago and popped in for a look - looked lovely and I agree, no problem that it has no pool as the beach is so near. Benodet itself is really lovely and a very pleasant walk along the coast from the campsite. You will love it!
