Anything within the Ringstrasse is going to be central and easy walking distance (or close to trams / U-bahn for other sights). Can't think of any names unfortunately as it's a long time since I've been. Make sure you see the Hundertwasserhaus and have a visit to a Heuriger!
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
You're lucky - Vienna is a wonderful city. I've never stayed in a hotel there but we left the motorhome on camping Vienna Sud for a small negotiated fee and stayed with friends. We got on a bus at the campsite to meet friends in the centre and wondered why no-one came to take money for a ticket. We found out why later- you're meant to get tickets first! (oops!) The transport system there is absolutely brilliant, we never waited more than five minutes for a train, bus or ubahn and it's so clean ( except for the fact that people in Vienna seem to have large dogs- and large dog seposits! watch where you walk)
The food and drink was good too. If you get time have a walk round the Naschmarket and Stefansplatz. A ubahn to the Danube banks is good with some lovely restaurants along the banks.Schonbrunn palace is a wonderful place to visit with views over what seems the whole of Vienna. Have a brilliant time!
Stayed at the 5***** Le Meridian (?) on the RingStrasse in 2003 after returning from getting married in Florida.
Booked via a German travel site. Think it was around 300 euros for 4 nights room and breakfast. The beds were fantastic - the best nights sleep I've EVER had!!!
The Le Meridien Vienna is a very impressive Hotel. Not specialy from the outside, but from Inside. The whole Hotel has got a great design, modern and welcoming. Normaly i would never pay for a Hotel like that in a town, but we got a great deal, it was worth it! Le Meridien Vienna is probably the most comfortable and best designed Hotel i've ever stayed in.
The rooms are so called "Art and Tech" rooms, when you enter the room you know why.... The design uses lots of wood and plays with the light. The Tech bit is a Huge flat screen Television (some 110cm), High Speed internet, Phone, Pay TV, Air conditioning, Coffee making facility, FREE (!!) Minibar, Shower with massage function, TV loudspeeker in the Bathroom etc. The very comfortable bed (with a 40cm mattress) has got a huge glass picture on the head end wich can be lit up, looks great! Different pillows, duvets and sheets will let you sleep wonderfull (specialy after a day walking around vienna....) The breakfast is served at a well equiped buffet, fresh orange juice, fruits, cheese, eggs, different bread etc. The Hotel has got a wellness area too, with swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna and fitness, towels, bathrobes are of course provided free.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
