We are a retired couple , very active and younger than our birth certifictes, who are planning a repeat visit to France. Looking for a very reasonably priced site (sites) in Brittany, near coast, not too far from a port ( our easiest access is Newhaven - Dieppe, but can easily do St. Malo etc. ) Cost of sites is the main item, we dont need childrens activities or anything but water and electric. Would like to be near interesting places. Plnning gooing either March 08 or June 08 for about four weeks. Help please, all you seasoned caravanners.....we went last year and travelled far too far, so dont want to repeat that, ended up right down South of France, found return journey too much.

We did a two week tour from Calais to the Somme, Bayeux, Mont St Micheal and then to the coast of brittany near Quimper in May. The sites were all quiet and there were plenty of caravans, we use a tent. I planned the trip using the Alan Rogers book and the lonely planet. If you want any more details of our trip let me know.

What do you call reasonable site prices? With ACSI, Camping Cheques or Touring Cheques you can have a pitch for two people, with caravan or campervan, awning, electricity (and a dog if you have one) for 10, 12, or 14 euros with ACSI or £10.30 with Camping Cheques and Touring Cheques. See websites www.campingcheque.co.uk, www.touringcheque.co.uk, or www.campingcard.co.uk for details and maps, etc., showing sites. All are designed for use in the low season, but in France this can be right up until the middle of July on some sites, and again from the middle of August. Each site will specify acceptance dates, and you won't need to book.
May/June would be better than March/April. Would agree with using a mixture of Camping Cheques and ACSI Card for best value. The advantage this year with using CC's is that you pay for them in Sterling based on the exchange rate of last October! Also a lot of Municipal campsites are good value. Have you got the Caravan Club European Guide Vol 1? An essential guide for sites in France.

You can buy an ACSI guide book and card from here , or from vicarious books here. Both will post them to you. You can also buy Camping Cheques from the Caravan Club if you book as part of a ferry-inclusive package (which can give you a good discount over booking directly with the ferry companies).

This is about about an hour from Roscoff. Its a lovely site, inexpensive, not noisy, with EHU etc. It is situated in Chateaulin which is in west Brittany and therefore really convenient for beaches and the lovely villages in the area ....Quimper is very nice too.
