Could anyone recomend a campsite near Dublin port?
The parents would like an overnight stop for their caravan for the first and last night of their holiday.
They plan to head north from Dublin following the coast through northen Ireland, then down the west side as far as Sligo or Roscommon and would ideally like CL type sites, but can't find any information about these.
If anyone could recomend some small sites they'd be very grateful
Thanks.

I live in dublin, have to say theres a shortage of sites here, but if you go to www.discoverireland.com you should be able to find somethiing in counties meath or louth, which wouldn,t be v. far to travel to dublin port.Louth would probably suit them if they're on the way up the north , and I know there's caravan parks in bettystown co. meath, traditional holiday area for dubliners, on the way to the north too and about 45 mins from dublin, I couldn't give you an idea of what the standards are like though, sorry..
Camac Valley Caravan & Camping park Naas Road, Clondalkin Dublin 22 it,s just off junction 9 M50 on the N7 tel no 00 353 1 464 0644 www.camacvalley.com
Hi, there is a good park called Gyles Quay in Dundalk which is about a hour north of Dublin and there is also a good one near to the M50 Camac Valley about 30 minutes from the port ( avoid rush hour as this is mad!) which is the outer ring road. It has five stars. If going to GylesQuay there is plenty to see there but this weekend is man being Paddy's weekend. Also park away from the statics, they can get a little loud. There is also quite a good one in Cavan on the banks of Lake Ramor and there is one in County Wicklow in a place called Roundwood which is nice.

Camac Valley for Dublin stopovers Northern Ireland campsites can be found at www.discovernorthernireland.com and click on accommodation and you will get the caravan parks. I recommend Carnfunnock outside Larne, Ballyness near the Giants Causeway and beside the Bushmills Distillery and Rushin House in County Fermanagh. There are very few CL type sites in Ireland but the Caravan Club has a few in N.I. Sites would need to be phoned to check for availability as all weekends and all July /Aug. would be very busy. Any more help needed get back to me
Was going to recommend North Beach at Rush myself.
Camac Valley is the better site, but it's outside the M50 heading West, so you're heading well away from your destination to the North. North Beach would be the nearest (should be there in less than 30 mins), or Gyles Quay mentioned above which would be another 45 mins or so farther on.
Coming back to the ferry from Sligo direction, Camac Valley would be perfect.

Would second Arthur's recommendation. btw I don't think there are any CLs or CSs in the Republic of Ireland, and the sites are often few and far between so tend to be more expensive than we are used to in the UK.
There are plenty of sites in the Republic see here www.camping-ireland.ie and plenty of sites in Northern Ireland under www.discovernorthernireland.com There is only a small population in Ireland and so the Caravan Club and Camping and Caravan Club do not put a lot of effort into providing sites or CL type sites. Northern Ireland has some as they are part of the U.K. but the Republic of Ireland are responsible for their own sites. Northern Ireland has very many excellent sites for the size of the country with very high standards in quite a good number of them.
