A quick question. Ive never bought camping cheques before. I have booked a week at Le Chantepie near Saumur from 25th August. I have paid a deposit but can I now pay the balance with camping cheques.?

So, if they can do it why can't the Caravan Club? I assume they get some sort of commission so that suggests a restriction has been placed on them. Perhaps it will be different next year-but at what price!

Nightrider, You did, but I was obviously typing mine out - posted just two minutes later than yours! Sorry!
Tim - I don't know about Chantepie - is it listed as a Camping Cheque site, on the website - I don't recall having seen it - and don't have my books handy at the moment. If it is, then I would email them to ask. We never book, so we never run up against this scenario.
David - I wonder if Discover will put Camping Cheques on to a Gold Card or whether they just sell the paper cheques. I may just go over there next week on my way to see friends in Bramhall and ask! We are going to buy some anyway.

When I was at Discover a few weeks ago I asked about the cheques. They have the maps on the counter by the tills, and sell the paper cheques, same price, £10.30. Don't know about them putting them on the Gold Card, I don't have a Gold Card, but as I'm having a walk up there this afternoon anyway, I'll ask them about that while I'm there.

Yes, I've never understood why camping cheques could only be bought online, or, as you say, via the CC, but only if you book a ferry through them.
As you probably know, I'm Dutch, and in Holland they still have the equivalent of the AA shops, there they are called ANWB. Every decent size town has at least one, bigger ones 2 or 3 even. The point is that at these ANWB shops you can call in and buy camping cheques, also at the same price, Euros obviously over there.
So if they are sold through all those over there, why can't more camping shops etc over here sell them? I know the AA no longer have shops over here, therefore the obvious choice would be camping shops/caravan dealers etc.

Well, the Camping Cheques cupboard was bare when I got to Discover this afternoon
But I was told that the Delamere store had them and they could get them from there for me, so I ordered some, before they all run out. She did say that they would 'probably' order more at the end of the month, as it was a new thing they were doing this year. So I would suggest that if you want some and were planning to go there, go sooner rather than later.
I also asked about the Gold Card, but was told that all they sell is the paper cheques (when they've got them!!) and don't have anything to do with the Gold Card.
Hmmmm! Will try them, perhaps middle of next week -at Coppull, and see what they say. They've obviously sold more than expected, so I'll see what happens when I call in!!

It was Coppull where I went, and where they didn't have any. The Delamere store apparently do have them and that's where Coppull are ordering them from for me.
