I've just read the terms and conditions of our booking with Brittany Ferries ( a bit late I know ). They can increase the price for fuel, tax, government charges but not the euro. I'm expecting a fuel increase to be honest.

Well I hope nothing else goes up now! We already scraping every penny together for these hols Our other campsite will cost more as we have only paid the deposit, but hope thats all!
Our invoice just dropped through the letterbox yesterday, to say I'm dissappointed is an understatement. We go in less than six weeks, and are busy getting together our bits and pieces and holiday money etc. £54 extra is a days spending money. I understand the reasons behind it, but surely they had an idea this would happen a few months ago, and give us a bit more warning.
we always book direct with the ferrys, at least the price wont change, or at least it hasnt and we have been going across on both Sea France and P&0 and it pays to check both when considering a crossing. dont rule out Eurotunnel they occasionally have some good competitive deals and we have used them as well.

It is not really fair considering most of us have probably paid for our holidays in full now. My oh is considering leaving c&cc, just not renewing next year. I must admit though I do like their UK sites.
We booked direct with the sites, and so far have only paid the deposits.
I was going to pay them in full when the rate dropped to 1.21, and then thought maybe I'd pay one in full and leave the other one, thereby hedging my bets. In the end apathy got the better of me and I did nothing... which is good, because the rate is currently about 1.26 - of course it was 1.4something when I originally booked, but hey - I didn't have my crystal ball.
I don't think its fair to surcharge you if you have paid in full, but if you haven't its only the same as booking direct and paying a deposit like I have.

They charge you the balance something like 2 months before you travel, so I think everyone on here who has had the C&CC surcharge has already paid in full.
Has anyone taken advice (legal) on whether they can actually do this after you've paid in full? It might just be worth ring up your local Consumer Rights group to find out. I can understand surcharges applying if you haven't paid the balance - but to have to stump up more once you've paid in full sounds dodgy practice to me???
Hi Val,
They can impose surcharges according to their ABTA approved terms. It's clause 5 on page 180 of the carefree book.
Interestingly it does make reference to refunds in the case of currency fluctuations going the other way, so my comment further up the thread is redundant. I'm only looking on with interest because we are not going to France this year...
We have nearly always booked direct ourselves and have never found that the clubs could beat our prices. It also gives us the fredom to do what we want if we change our minda while in France.
One year only did we book through the Caravan Club, never again, we wanted to move stes when we were there but could not, we wanted to come back by a diferent route but again no help from the club and a very bad attitude towards us.
When we come back we checked all the prices and found out we could have saved money doing the same trip the way we normaly arange things, we just thought it would save a bit of effort.
We are now members of the C&CC but still book our holidays by our way.

We wont be booking through them again! we were just a bit chicken as it is our first trip, but after looking round we could have got it loads cheaper, specially with the camping cheques and so on, it is still low season when we are going in June, and Like you say you can get it cheaper on the internet!
Also I think its well out of order once you have paid your balance, you have done your deal! it would be like going shopping, paying, then being told the prices have gone up, you have to pay, and cant get a refund!
We probably wont renew our membership either, been members for 4 yrs now, but hardly ever go to one of their sites, there's just too much choice else where!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
