It's also Monsoon rain at present - sorry to be depressing, but friends of ours with a holiday home in the Minervois and are there at the moment, but have had nothing but rain for five days - and have said that prices for everything have gone up by about 20% because of inflation and the price of fuel. Looks like its 'pull in the belts' - take even more with us tomorrow, don't travel when we don't need to, and let's hope the weather gets better!
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
jeez, getting depressed now at these prices, no respite once we get there from it.are these autoroute prices or supermarket ?
glad we wont be venturing too far from base and base isnt far at all from the tunnel.
1.43was s/market. autoroutes are up to 10c dearer.
The rain has been pretty bad all over europe. We are parked up on gravel in front of owners' house as the site is completely waterlogged. Afternoon was lovely and sunny but it has rained again tonight I'm afraid. Fields and ditches in the loire area are running with water. Water table is well up and it won't dry out for a week at least even if there's no more rain. Friends are meantime in Nimes and it's worse there.
These fuel prices are depressing me,we were planning to go camping in July,Dover-Dunkirk head south towards Med see how far we got.My car is a Volvo2.5 petrol hence the depression.
Just got back from France, and in the space of a week the Autoroute diesel prices rose from between a range of €1.45 - €1.49 to €1.53 - €1.59. The lowest I saw on Friday was at a Super U, and was €1.42. Petrol was more expensive, but didn't really take a lot of notice.
The c**p exchange rate virtually wipes any potential savings.
That's the site I contribute to in order to keep folks informed of the prices here, local to us.
It's still cheaper to fill up here than in the UK, marginally. But, at 10p/litre cheaper, that's still a fair saving on a 60 litre tank. It's still cheaper to eat out here. (3 course meal for around £9). It's still cheaper to buy wine, beer and cigs here. You can still get good deals on ferries and the tunnel. Having looked into it, and made a fair comparison, it's still cheaper to holiday in France with your own tent, even taking into account the ferry fares, than it is to have a comparative holiday in a mobile home in say, Cornwall for example. Or £1000.00 for a 4-day Easter break at CenterParcs? No thanks.
My feeling is that there are external forces at work, trying to bring the £ into line with the €, in order to justify the UK joining the single european currency.
I agree, it is still a very good value holiday compared to the UK - though I read in one of the Sundays that the ferries will have to start surcharging to cover the price rises.

Agree with Floydfan that soon the euro and pound will be equal, but the wine and food and more wine is cheaper not to mention the general ambience.
We have been staying near to Montauban for the last five days with no rain and warm enough to swim in the pool. Fuel here is € 1.44 for derv at the s/mkt.
