I've booked a stay at this site for 4 weeks this summer. Lately I've found some disturbing posts here. They are all from 2005/2004 however. Does anybody have any more recent experiences of Les Menhirs?
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Sorry, don't go to Brittany, either. But I would say that sometimes a review is not always what it seems. I know that the weather, the people you meet on site, the ambience in the bar, or many other things can colour a review of a site - and make it seem 'rose coloured' or 'I wouldn't choose to go there if you paid me'. If you haven't paid 'up front' then you can always turn up and see what the site is really like. It may suit you down to the ground - and if not, then you can always move on. If you have paid 'up front' then you'll have to decide if the site is OK when you arrive, or negotiate a refund of what you've paid and try to find another site elsewhere.
It's a beautiful area so even if the site is not what you were hoping for you can still have a lovely holiday. The beaches are fantastic and there are some great boat trips around the Gulf of Morbihan.

I was last at the site in 2005 (I think) and thought it was great.
The new bar and indoor pool had just opened.
Unfortunately if you're going peak season near the coast and you want facilities then you're going to get a busy noisy site anywhere - especially one that is only 5 minutes walk from the town centre and 5 minutes walk from the beach.
Enjoy what Carnac and the area can offer - and do what I do whenever I go anywhere new - have a drive around and look at other sites - then scribble notes in my Alan Rogers guide so I don't make mistakes in the following years.
Hi Pluke, We stayed at this site a few years ago – it is a bit noisy and the site does not have the best atmosphere, however Cranac is a great little town if you want a bit of a buzz in the evening. The local beaches are lovely – especially if you venture out to Quiberon. The weather can be a bit changeable but then so can most of France unless you go right down to the South – I think you will be able to have a lovely holiday f you just go with an open mind

When are you going? we always go out of school holidays and at non peek times i have to say that we always think that in the high season it would not be so good and v hetic!
We got back from there on 29th June, it was great! Couldn't fault it, although it was quiet as not busy season, yet so prob a lot busier in Aug!
I noticed the reviews have disappeared for this site now?
Its only 5/10 mins walk to the centre, so lots of bars and restuarants there we found them quite expensive mind you! Wanted to try a Fruits de mer, but it worked out to £50 and thats without a drink so didn't bother
Also the beach is same walk and lovely. Dont miss the stones near by and a trip to Aurray is recommended its a lovely place!
