Hi All,

myself, my hubby and our 2yr old are new to camping and are thinking of going to France for a week this summer with our tent, does anyone know any good ones or any we should definately steer clear of?

Key points for me are: cleanliness (important with a toddler) and somewhere inexpensive to go if it rains. Any pointers would be appreciated.

We camp in France every year (with kids) and could almost certainly give you some suggestions but it would be helpful if you gave some parameters. How far do you want to drive? Beach or country? Sightseeing or blobbing? Do you want a pool? Any other "must haves"?

Thanks Di, we dont want to drive for more than 2 hours once we get to france and would prefer a beach but would make do with a pool in the country, we do generally want to chill out but want to be near some culture at the same time. It'd be a shame to go to france and not be able to enjoy some local culture. was thinking of getting the ferry to Boulogne as its cheaper!

A safe bet is Raguenes Plage near Nevez in Southern Brittany. You could get there within two hours if you use the Condor service from Poole to St Malo (they still have good mid-week prices). The emplacements have good shade and the lovely beach is a short walk away (even for a toddler) across a field, and there are lots of rock pools. There is a very toddler friendly paddling section adjoining the main site pool. The site is popular so you would have to book.

There is a lovely walk across the headland (West) to a hamlet (Rospico???) which has a great beach with a little stream to paddle in - my kids loved this. There are lots of nice harbours nearby for crabbing and Concarneau isn't that far away for a bit of culture!
