We are taking our tent to France (Vendee and Brittany) and have electric hook-up leads for plugging in our caravan in this country. Can anyone tell me what we need to buy to adapt our cable for use in France or are the electric hook-ups the same as here?
Thanks Suzanne

We've been over to France the last couple of years and stayed on several sites, and we're going again this year. On most of the sites we've stayed at the hook ups were exactly the same as here, but at least one of them had the traditional continental 2 pin style scoket. You can pick up the appropriate adaptor that fits onto your existing lead quite easily in most good camping shops for about £5 or less. However I'd recommend you do a quick search on this website for "reverse polarity" to find out more about this aspect. That bit's too complicated for me to explain here!
Thank you very much for the helpful reply. We haven't camped abroad so I don't want any surprises when we get there and feel like we aren't equipt for the holiday.
You cant use your caravan lead in a tent unless you make something up to plug your appliances into, otherwise you will have to buy a tent EHU click here You will need the mobile mains supply unit & continental hookup adaptor, you can buy these items from any large camping/caravan shop. if you want cheap you could buy an extention lead from B&Q, cut off the 3 pin plug & fit a blue/white plug but of course you would have no RCD protection. You would still need the 2 pin adaptor but many French sites use the blue/white plug same as ours.
Obviously it is important that your electrical system is fit for purpose & that any appliances you might plug in must be modern & suitable for camping use but dont worry about 'reverse polarity' despite what you might read on here(but mysteriously nowhere else)it is not an issue with modern equipment which will be to European standards.
Ive just noticed the mains supply unit pictured has only 10mtres of cable, you can get them with 25mtres or take you caravan lead to extend it.
