Going to france tomorrow and taking a sat nav which has speed cameras loaded have i read somewhere this is illegal or have i misunderstood thanks in advance

No - the location of speed cameras is well published in France - and some Maries (town halls) even list the forthcoming locations of mobile units in their area - to warn everyone!!! What is illegal is a 'radar detector' which tells you when you're coming up to a 'mobile' speed camera - those are illegal.

IN addition to Vals comment, when you see a camera warning in France there is a camera, not like here where they are placed every mile just to deface the countryside, and they are switched on.

My impression is that French drivers are taking much more notice of limits than they used to, and of the drink driving laws. As always there are exceptions to every rule
