We are looking for an overnight stop on route between Clermont Ferrand and Narbonne, don't mind service station with camp facilities, any suggestions ?

The biggest service areas is at Severac Le Chateau (Aire de l'Aveyron) but when we've stopped there in the past (not to sleep over) there have been several 'travelling' families. The Aire du Larzac further south is a bit 'depressing' somehow, but the Aire de Caylar is very pleasant, and you can walk into the village from it - which is a nice bonus. (However, all these aires are very exposed if the weather is bad - which it can be on that route). We've never actually stopped on a service area so far south, though we do in the north of France, but I know it's not recommended to overnight on the Aires between Montpellier and the Spanish border.
We usually stay overnight in Millau, where there are lots of sites to choose from so you'll always find a pitch, and if you're lucky you'll get a view of the viaduct from your pitch. Best way is to cross the viaduct and come back into Millau from the Le Cavalarie junction, for the best views, then as you get to the bottom of the hill take the 'Rodez' road, which forms the ring-road, and most of the campsites are over the bridge right, or left at the end of the bridge (sites both sides).
Just a bit further south there's a municipal site at Clermont L'Herault, which friends recommended, though we've never stayed there.
Thanks Val, we couldn't get a hotel anywhere so a campsite was the next best thing, are there any particular sites in Millau that you can recommend ? (that are not too far off the route) We used to do the journey in one go, but now we have teenagers!!
We have just come back and we stopped at this site - les logues. Not too far from the motorway and in a nice scenic location by the banks of a river. Staff are freindly and there are swimming pools and a bouncy castle and a playground, as well as a restaurant and takeaway. Satnav co-ordinates are in alan rogers, but it was in a list of french campsite poi s I had downloaded.

All the campsites in Millau are in the town itself, but it's not too much of a detour from the A75. We've stayed at Les Rivages, and Le Cureplat - and out of the two I'd recommend Les Rivages (there was nothing really wrong with Le Cureplat, just it was early April, and the cold weather put us off). Rivages is alongside the river, with nice views, and there's a good restaurant on site, which stays open quite late. There are about 15 campsites though, all in close proximity, and all in nice positions. There are several cheap hotels, there, too - so maybe worth looking at their availability.
Must admit, the Nonette site, above, looks nice. We've stayed nearby at both Issoire (Municipal), and at Parentignat (Le Grange Fort) - and both are handy for the autoroute, but maybe a bit further north than you want.
Hi again, We are having no real luck with hotels, it would be easier for us to have an overnight stop in a mobile home, a lot of places only seem to do a minimum of two nights. We are 2 adults 4 kids on a budget really, OH is reluctant to unpack trailer etc for one night and I can't blame him really ! We will search on, we leave on friday though, running out of hope now, thanks for all your help xx

We've done it in the past at some service areas, (when our sons used to travel with us) and I think there are some grassy bits around at Aire de Caylar - but it isn't something I've taken a great deal of notice of, to be honest. There's more grassed areas at Aire d'Aveyron, and less at Aire du Larzac, I do know that.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
