We are off to the Ardeche on Monday, having not been before was wondering if anyone could help us out with any recommendations for a stop over site? We are on the 8.15 dover/Calais and will most likely take the main auto route. Looking on the map, thinking maybe Macon? Would this be good? Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Martina

You've posted in the wrong section, but I will answer anyway, maybe someone will move the post.

We went to the Ardeche in April for 2 weeks and stopped over night at Lac de la Liez both on the way down and on the way back.

On the whole a reasonable site, check out my review of it.

Steve.

Thanks for answering Steve, still a bit wet behind the ears on the message board.

Bit like the camping really! Still thanks for the recommendation will check it out and hopefully book an over night stop.

Martina.

Hi. Depending how many days you take, La Fleurie (it's the same as on bottles of red wine) is a lovely place, or was when we used it a few years back. And the local Cave came round in the evening giving away free samples of the wine, which went well too!(We gave ours to our neighbours for looking after the house, and they were well impressed!)
Have a good trip,
Richard.

Hi Martina

I would recommend this English owned site which we stayed at in May 2008 [see my review]. It is just off the A6 north of Macon. There is also a Supermarket less than 5 mins away with Fuel.

There's a municipal campsite in Macon itself, which is almost 'just off' the autoroute - but not near enough to be noisy). It's pleasant enough, biggish pitches, a small bar on site (and I think a snack-type place - though these municipals blur into one eventually).  You can also walk into town from the site if you want to.
