We have just stayed at Camping La Chaumiere, Buysscheure, Pas de Calais. This guy wanted to charge the full amount for a fourth person...on an 8 month old child !!! Bad enough that we had to pay the full season price when he had closed the pool and the restaurant the day we arrived. Also be warned, if you like mud you are in for a treat, as the pitches are just that now. As I said this was our 3rd stay here in as many years, but in a way sadly our last...never again.

I was interested in using this site in the future so I found your post interesting. Am I to assume that your previous stays were OK? The site webpage seems to sell itself on friendliness but am I to assume there was some 'attitude' there?
According to the website it should have been 3.50€ for under 7. Its good to look at the pricelist first, which should always be displayed, work out the price beforehand & write it on a piece of paper, Ive had this before with French campsites, whether they were trying it on or just made a mistake I know not. But having a figure written on paper helps if you are trying to argue in 2 different languages.

Re: Dave, our first visit 3yrs ago was very good, the restaurant food was great and generaly a very good site all in all, although having said that signs of neglect were apparent ie-hedges were becoming overgrown etc.. The 2nd visit the guy did not seem to care much at all and was some what put out if you were to make any sort of request, even when we asked for coffee after our meal ?????? The 3rd, and last visit...well to be honest I did not want to stay here but the other folk in our party thought it a good place to stop over on our return journey, because there was a pool and restaurant : ) ironic `eh ? the fact that it was not in our original plans to stay may be why I had not taken much notice on prices? but come on an 8month old ????
there were 4 outfits staying at the same time as mustang(i was talking to him on the thursday, the pitch we were on was seriously waterlogged when mustangs party left on the saturday i got his pitch, and the following week it wasnt to bad,but i must agree guy didnt seem too bothered about his site.maybe because the season was nearly over.........but with people still there i would have made an effort, but then again im not a site owner, could be different in main season.
A site owner who changes his attitude depending on the season?? I doubt it. Closing down certain facilities depending on the season occurs, but changing attitude hardly. Usually a ruse or uninterested attitude is characteristic for that person. I would interpret this as a sign that he is loosing interest. Hence the site will be going down, or probably better, sold to new owners.
I must admit though that I have been in situations that other persons complained about the management's attitude, while I could easily get them where i wanted them too. Apparently in those cases communication was bad and there was some magic word to get them running (e.g. 'danger' instead 'nuisance' when speaking of a wasps nest). Sometimes the owner simply did not understand the argument or problem of another campsite guest which I could explain to him in three words French.
So I can't judge about this specific case.

We stayed on this site a few times, but it was about 6 or 7 years ago, and back then we were certainly impressed with the site and the owner. Moreover, on arrival he would always offer a free drink from the bar! Ever since, we also still keep getting a Xmas card from them, maybe last year's will have been our last, in view of people's experiences!
The other attraction, for dog owners, is/was the fact that his wife, Bernadette, is/was the local vet's nurse, so could easily arrange the necessary visits.
