Like many others I have been looking at sites in the Vendee, several of which offer fishing lakes. Do they charge per rod, per day, to fish? And would you need an enviromental agency licence?
Thanks

I have a shortlist of 4 - La Guyonniere, Domaine de la foret, La Garangeoire, Le pin parasol.
But I was just wondering if there where charges for fishing, we stayed at a site in the UK this year and had to pay £5 for each rod plus a fee to the enviroment agency.

The place we have camped for the last 3 years does not charge for fishing in the river or their carp pond, and they make no mention of a license. I think this is because it's (the site's) private land. But it's none of the sites on your list. You should ask the site, but I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised

I think most in France, unlike in the UK, let you use the fishing pools for free.
We just went to Loire, my OH ended up fishing every day! Even tho hes not a regular fisher man, he borrowed my sons gear, but he loved it cos he caught loads of fish! At least I got some peace and could read my book!
I'm a carp angler. Been to Garangeoire twice. Nice big lake........but you won't catch carp. I watched guys fishing there, all sorts, and very little caught, maybe the odd skimmer. they have a lake up the road outside the site, about half mile. You can catch small mirrors and the odd tiny common on a short pole...all day long. You'll get burnt though.
No license required as it's on their land. Don't worry.
you'll be hard pushed to find a good site with good angling on. They would get hammered!
Thanks for the advice, interesting how their websites show people holding huge fish!!

The big lake near La Garangeoire site is the Lac de Jaunay, and I believe it does have carp - and even night carp-fishing. As does the nearby Lac d'Apremont, in the area around the village of Mache.
To fish these lakes, and other waters in the Vendee, you would need a permit - though I presume you would not when fishing in a small lake on private property, such as within the confines of a campsite. The campsite or any tourist office will tell you wher eyou can buy one.
You can buy a day pass at 8 euros, or a "carte vacances" (holiday permit) that covers 15 consecutive days after 1 June, for 30 euros. A child under 12 on 1 Jan can have an annual card for just 2 euros. It's all in French however, so polish up your language skills first!
