Can anybody recommend some child friendly (not rowdy) campsites in Brittany that are near the beach and have good places to visit / things to do in the vicinity?

We have never camped abroad before and we woudl like to go camping in Brittany next year but don't quite know where to start looking in terms of good places to pick and campsites.

We have children that range from 1 to 12 but are not looking for a rowdy site where the bar / night time entertainment is a big feature.

Any recommendations woudl be really appreciated and also recommendations on ferry crossings and any tips on how to keep the ferry crossing price (and general holiday costs!) down would be great (I know I'm asking a lot!).

Thank you in advance!

I think you will be gob-smacked at how child-frendly the french are. A total contrast to the UK.

Head for the Gulf of Morbihan area to get the best weather and some great beaches. Lots of very child friendly sites to choose from. We liked Camping Mane Guernehue but although it is right by the sea it is a bit of a drive from the nearest swimming beach. If you are beach people then maybe one of the sites at La Trinite would be a good bet. To keep the costs down I would go Dover - Calais and stop off for the night near Honfleur, Normandy. Domaine le Catiniere was very nice for a one night stopover and Honfleur was lovely for a meal out by the harbour.

Thank you - I will take a look at the area you suggest and thanks for the tips about the ferry and staying over, that sounds great!

If going to Brittany head as far south as possible. There's no such thing as an "child unfriendly" site in France. Just check the brochures ie Select Sites, Europcamp, Keycamp and Alan Rogers for starters.

I say as far south as poss 'cos Brittany's climate is very, very similar to Cornwall. It can rain and blow a great deal there so go prepared for this. Wall to wall sunshine is definitely not guaranteed, trust me!

We love Trinite sur Mer, our favourite site being Camping de la Baie. Loads to see and do in the area and the beautiful Gulf of Morbihan is right on your doorstep.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much.  Have now looked at Trinite sur Mer and it looks lovely and just the type of site we are looking for.   Will remember to pack the wellies and waterproofs!
