Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Sanguli and Cambrils Park are the other two large sites in Salou/Cambrils. There's also Camping Joan which I think is smaller, but we've never visited it and the website doesn't seem to be taking bookings for next year, so not able to find out prices.
This is the review from Alan Rogers:
Camping Joan is a family site to the south of the popular resort of Cambrils and with direct access to the sandy beach. There are 200 touring pitches of two different types, some being suitable for larger units. Most are between 60-90 sq.m. in size with 5A electrical connections and there is good shade. The 160 remaining pitches are used for mobile homes and chalets to rent. The site has a swimming pool, but obviously the main attraction here will be the beach. This is a lively site in high season with a varied and comprehensive programme of entertainment and activities for adults and children.
In the centre of the site, near the entrance, is the La Palmera restaurant and bar, with a further bar/restaurant (Maritim) located beside the beach, alongside a well stocked shop These amenities are open for quite a long season (Easter - September).
Facilities
Six sanitary blocks of which only four are available for the touring pitches Bar, restaurant and takeaway meals. Supermarket. Swimming and paddling pools. Playground. Entertainment programme in high season, children’s club. Direct access to beach.
Hope this helps. If you can go during the May school holidays then Cambrils Park takes Camping Cheques, and children under 12 go free, so it would only cost £11.75 per night! Camping Joan also takes Camping Cheques but there's no free children places.
thanks for the info everyone unfortunately camping joan doesnt take bookings and as we want to saty for 5 weeks end july/august we dont want to risk not getting a pitch there is also apparently a site called la corona if anyobe has any info dont want to go to the other big ones as they are too expensive for this length of time, and we really wanted to be in salou or camrils
See my reply on your other posting. I'd rather find the extra money, and not run the risk of being in a campsite with caravans so near they must be fire hazards, and one review mentions the bodies of rats around the caravans!
Like I said on the other reply, somehow I'd try to find the extra cash (not that much anyway) for one of the better sites. It's a holiday after all - and you don't want to have to spend it on somewhere unpleasant, just because it's cheap.
Adam says in another posting that he particularly wants to be in Salou, and asks about La Union. In this posting he mentions La Corona. The reviews on Trip Advisor mention rats at La Union, cramped and dirty conditions, and two people stating they would never go back. I've seen La Corona - for myself - it's directly opposite to Cambrils Park and we've had a look around. You could shake hands from one caravan to another, many of the caravans appear to be permanent establishments, there are cane awnings covering many of the pitches and between one van and another where families obviously share 'two' pitches, and the fire hazard must be enormous. Neither of them are particularly cheap, and if Adam is planning a five week stay then personally I'd want to be somewhere nice, not just somewhere cheap.
We were at Salou (not camping) in the Summer. It is a dreadful town - 60's concrete monstrosity though the beach & prom are nice, full of drunken maniacs at night. There is much nicer on that coast. We were at Playa Bara the previous year, about 1/2 an hour from Salou. It was expensive & big, but superb. Don't be put off by the size. Pitches were not too close & all were seperated with hedges. The landscaping is a work of art. Again they don't take bookings - just turn up. They have an overspill area where you can pitch until someone leaves. We got straight on (though it was the last vacant pitch) on a Saturday afternoon in July last year.
I have booked up for here next August, my maths being £37 / night for 4 adults, caravan and electric.
Not quite Salou but stones throw from Barcelona.

Salou outside peak season is not at all like it's described in a previous posting (fortunately!!!). We've been several times, and taken my sons and their friends (always in low season, mostly Easter or Whitsuntide) and it's been great. However, one of the friends who we took with us went to Salou during the 'summer holidays' this year (early August I think) and said how different it was to when he'd been there with us.
If I were Adam and wanted to go to Salou for 5 weeks, but couldn't afford the best sites, then I'd only go for three or four weeks, and spend the other time on sites on the way down and the way back, breaking up the holiday and making the costs less. There are some superb sites on the way through France.
CathyMac - when are you going to Europe? Generally travel in Europe is easier than over here - important for you as you live a long way from any ferries. Best ferry for Spain is probably the cheapest - or the most expensive. If you don't mind the drive, then Dover/Calais or Dover/Boulogne with Speedferries, Seafrance, or Norfolk Line are probably the cheapest (Speedferries if you don't have a caravan). If you don't want to drive to Spain then Portsmouth/Bilboa or Santander with P and O, or Brittany Ferries, is probably your best option. We haven't done that route, because I'm not too good a sailor, so when going to Spain we've always done the short crossing. Our preferred route now is Calais, Abbeville, Rouen, Chartes, Nevers, Clermont Ferrand, Millau, Beziers, Perpignan and through to La Jonquera in Spain. The Costa Brava area in Spain is lovely, but I don't rate Calella as being any better than Salou - I took my mother there for a week once. The small towns on the Costa Brava, such as Calella de Palafrugell (not the same as the Calella above), Begur, and that area, or even Playa de'Aro, have beautiful beaches, and more interesting villagey bits! Even Tossa de Mar and the centre of Lloret de Mar, in low season are enchanting! The Roses area is lovely too.
If you're going outside peak season then have a look at the Camping Cheques website for details of loads of sites through Europe - there may be others which you like the look of too. We're going in May/June, and again at the end of August, and have already got a fistful of Camping Cheques, so we don't even have to make a decision about where we're going. In the past we've been known to be heading for Italy, and then finding the weather was bad there, ended up in Spain instead!
Hi, we went to a great site in June called Cabrils Playa. The pitches were not huge but were seperated by low hedges and also had trees for a bit of shade.
There were two or three toilet blocks and one was a lot newer than the others but they were all very clean.
The site is about 10 mins walk from Cambrils and about 15 mins walk to Salou so you have got the best of both worlds. They is also a bus if you are feeling really lazy.
Salou was lovely and quiet when we were there and the beaches were spotless.
If I was you I would look at Cambrils Playa website, it is easy to follow and gives you all the prices etc.
I dont know if you can book up at the momment as the site closed for winter about a week ago but its worth having a look.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
