Thank you all for your help over the last few days with the posts that I have put on here. We are looking forward to taking our van away to France for the first time next year.
Unfotunately I have come up against some sites that can't take twin axles because of there size.
Does anyone know of a nice site, pref south brittany with plenty to do for the kids and not to far from the beach that will take twin axle vans. We have been advised by a couple of sites that pitches are 100m2. Would my van really be too big. It is just under 8m in length I believe ( Abbey Vogue 2 650)
Can anyone help
Thanks
Mandy

Been caravaning in france for over 10 years with our twin axle and have never had a problem or found a site that does not take them. nearly ever site in france will have someone staying on it with a twin axle usually a hobby. This not taking twin axle vans seems to come from people posting in the U.K. not from French campsites I may be wrong but I have never found a site that bans twin axle vans.
Sorry found a site that does not take twin axle but it is owned by Brits not French.

Are you actually talking directly to the site? The C&C Club ask sizes of units - but that's because they 'book' a specific number of pitches with a site, and usually get 'standard' size pitches. If you have a large unit then they might not be able to book a pitch for you - but the site itself might because it might have larger pitches not 'booked out' to the Caravan and Camping Club.
If you've talked directly to the site, and they've said 'No' then it would be a good idea to post the names of any sites which have refused you, on here, so that others with twin axles are pre-warned.
There are a number of French sites that will not take Large TA caravans, usually Municipals. We had problems at Nevers this year, we were only allowed on because we had booked in before the girl realised we had a TA, she told us to park at the bottom of the site and to hide our wheels .
The rule is there to stop the Itinerants (Gypsies).
We have never had a problem with commercial sites.
Totally agree with Val, have a word with the site directly, if they still say No, please let us know the name of the site.
We have a large twin axle van and have never had anyone tell us we cannot use their site except when the site roads are too narrow to allow easy access to the pitches which makes perfect sense.
When we went to Southern Brittany we stayed at Camping Mane Guernehue near Vannes - fantastic site with fab pool complex. It is right by the sea but a 20 minute drive to a good swimming beach. Would definitely rate this site and area very highly and the pitches were more than adequate for our van which is 7.95 metres.

Thanks for all your comments. I will check out the site that Susie stayed on, sounds ideal.
The site that said the pitches would not be big enough and would not have the access required for my van which is 7.96m is Yelloh Village Port de Plaisance in Benodet. The pitch size was 100sq mtrs, and they felt that with the van and awning there would be no space for the car etc
