Can anyone recommend any campsites in this area? We will be taking our son who will be 15, so need a few things on site to keep him happy. Also would like to be near a sandy beach. We are thinking of taking our caravan on the Bilbao crossing for a change, so a site within a few hours drive from there would be ideal.

Biarritz camping [ACSI discount site] is handy for the beach and - at low tide- you can walk into Biarritz.
Further North in Landes department - there are lots of large sites handy for beach / forest / bike rides and - of course - surfing

We went to Portiragnes Plage which is about 5-6 hours from Bilbao. Great site for kids and great beach. We went with Eurocamp and they have a Base camp for teenagers. My reluctant 14 year old went and came back loving it and making friends. We hardly saw him after that

and last but not least just input town / area and camping and have a really good look around.

we've always found sites to be generally good, but we tend to avoid the bigger sites with teenagers - which is probably your best bet

good luck and enjoy your trip.
recommend you take some picnic scoff on the boat woith you - plus binoculars n camera
