If you just drive straight down the autoroute from Calais in a car(no caravan)the toll is 46€ one way, but if you want to go thru Belguim & Luxembourg its a similar distance with no toll.

The route, Calais Dunkerque Lille Mons Namur Luxembourg Nancy Epinal Besancon.

Paying the toll your driving time would be about 7hrs + stops. Also you are better off nipping into towns to buy your fuel from supermarkets, most now take uk credit cards in their 24/24 pumps. much cheaper than autoroute services. Cheapest fuel is in Lux. btw

It can get cold at night and it also can rain quite alot! When we stayed there we needed thick fleeces for night time and the rain came through the bottom of our tent! The site is lovely however and we really enjoyed the area. If you have bikes take them with you.

We stayed at La pergola a couple of yeas ago and liked it very much. It's quite a long thin site on the shore of Lac du Chalain which means the activity is at one end of the site and peace & quiet is at the other.

Our pitch was a good size with an embankment behind and tall hedges seperating us from neighbours. Very shady though & not much grass, but this is typical of busy French sites.

Only downside is that everywhere, from touring to shopping, is a bit of a trek

Our own favourite site in this area is Val du Bonnal near Rougement. though the pools aren't as good in my view it has a river and a lake for swimming & splashing (Chalain is more waterskiing, canoeing etc). Apart from being ideal for local restaurants and (my favourite) Besancon, it's also near the best army surplus store you'll ever see - I got a brill entrenching tool (ex Dutch army) but you can get everything up to full chemical warefare suits

Their website, the bit where you book online says min pitch size 100m2 and max pitch size 120m2. That should be well big enough for even the biggest Sunncamp.

We always state the size of our tent and ask how big the pitch is before we book, but we do have quite a large tent.

It's about 10 years since we stayed there but the weather in July/August was very good with just one day of rain. Lovely site, pitches about average size. They are terraced up from the lake so if you're higher up it's a steep access road but lovely views. Caves du Herrisson worth a visit.
