Hi all, been a while since I was on here, feeling a bit guilty as only logging on to ask for advice again !
We're thinking of going to Le Soleil in Argeles in July and renting a moblile home, think we are going to leave out tent at home and just use it for Ireland/Uk holidays -was such a pita trying to fit everything in the boot and roofbox on the way home from the vendee last year - the stress arrgh .
I was looking at prices for soleil own statics and they were coming out at about 1400 euro for 2 weeks ? So I went onto keycamp and they gave me a price of about 1500 euro for mobile and ferry crossing portsmouth-cherbourg included.
I always thought that booking with the sites directly would be cheaper ?
Any opinions on what soleil's own mobiles are like or whether I should go for a particular holiday company- Keycamp/Canvas etc ?
Thanks !

I would also add that although the site is in a great location for the beach [with clothes or natural] the site can be noisey at night as a result of a funfair nearby.
Dont know about this campsite and also dont know when you are thinking of going ,but if it is low season. Have a look at Holiday Cheque (part of Alan Rogers/Kawan Group). They do a fantastic price, but low season only, it works out between £29 - £41 per night depending on which campsite and time you go. We have used them three times and the quality of their mobiles and equipment is superb. Also if you book 14 nights you only pay for 11 or if you book 7 nights you pay for 6.
Had heard about the noise from the funfair , thanks for the forewarning tethersend, if I remember rightly you gave me advice when I asked about Soleil Plage last year so double thanks in order I think !(even though I ended up going to La Garangeoire instead)!
Not sure where to go yet, had pretty bad weather in the vendee last year so really want some heat this time around, hoping that this area will be a bit more reliable
The happycamp site was working out quite expensive for me , but I was on the english translated site I think.
Lyanbint- tried the camping cheques, le soleil didn't seem to come up for the dates I wanted - July 28-14 , so maybe I'm out of season there..
Its an easy walk through the dunes from campsite to beach. The dunes are full of wild cacti and lavender. the views to the mountains are stunning. The beach is wide but steep where you enter the water, the sand is coarse and when teh wind blows some protection is ESSENTIAL to prevent sand blasting. there are lots of worthwhile day trips..
LIDL and CARREFOUR in Argeles - go early or not at all.
Thanks for that Huw , mine will be 13, 11 & 6 when we go so bit of a mix there.
I found that when we went to Garangeoire last year our 12 yo was a bit bored when the friends she had made went home(during our first week). There was a bit of a lull then friends-wise where she was bored stiff (hell for us)!
A lot of people seemed to arrive during our 2nd week, but quite a few of the kids seemed to know one another so I don't think she had enough time to break into the 'gang'.
The other 2 are happy enough doing anything!
I was talking to the owner of Garangeoire, she said that it's really not suitable for teenagers but so many of them have been going there for years with their families from when they have been small and now they really have nothing to do there now that they are older.
They all go down to the lake ,I think that's about it!
the inland sites tend to be smaller and thus there is a smaller selection of kids so you have to be especially careful that you go somewhere keycamp etc are shipping in Brit playmates until they are old enough to feel confident with all those foreigners you met in France
The year before last we bumped into a couple who had taken two teenagers to a remote gite for relaxation and tranquillity - it lasted about 20 minutes after which they had to be the entertainment for 2 teenagers - gee they looked like they needed a holiday

Its vast but the staff are really professional. My daughter has loved it since first visit [ 3 summers ago] - she meets load of people and this year [now 16] did the midnight + disco. In previous years she had nursed a coke at the beach bar for hours but this year, encouraged by some dutch and french neighbours, she was really entering into the holiday spirit. [Not alcoholic spirit] My son is 2 years younger and not so keen but amuses himself fishing with the other lads his age.
The company I was referring to was Holiday Cheque, Not Camping Cheque although it is all part of the same organisation. Holiday Cheque only deal with statics not camping pitches. Unfortunately they only do bookings up until the end of June and from 31st August, so sorry it will not be an option for you. But maybe in the future give them a thought, as they are brilliant.
Last years holiday at Les Ranchisses in the Ardeche only cost us £320 for 14 nights, which was for everything including bed linen. We booked our crossing on Eurotunnel with Tesco Vouchers so all in all dont think that is bad value.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
