We have just come back from the caravan show in Manchester. We were given an offer to ireland if we book a ferry crossing by 31st Jan the caravan can go free and it can be used anytime during the year. We are thinking of summer holidays. We would like to go around the cork killarny area and up along the coast to may be Mayo. Does anyone have any recommended sites in those areas they know about.
thank you Yorkie

There is (or used to be) a comparatively cheap site in Mayo, right on the main road under Croagh Patrick, perfectly acceptable. Don't go to the site in Westport, the price is ridiculous! There is also a cheapish site near Glegarriff, Co. Cork right next to an expensive one. Sorry, can't remember the names. Personally I would give Killarney a miss unless expensive over done tourism is your thing, much better imo to stay at Tralee for a night or two and then go round the Ring of Kerry anticlockwise, i.e. from the north, to avoid the overhanging rocks! You could stay at Mannix Point and Wavecrest, both good sites. The Dingle area is also well worth seeing.
You could of course go to Northern Ireland as suggested above, and visit Donegal from there which is beautiful, only not so green and lush as further south.

Eagle Point at Ballylicky which is just north of Bantry is a beautiful site.
Flemmings White Bridge at Killarney is also A1 in all respects
And for when you go up to County Mayo, it would have to be Knock Caravan Park for me, this must be the cleanest site that I have ever seen.
I would also suggest a night at Camac Park, Dublin, for the night before you get the ferry, that is of course if you are sailing from one of the two Dublin ports
I do not know if they are still bookable through the Caravan Club.

Our tourer days are over and we have moved on to a Hobby Motorhome
Hi Yorkie, further to Anne,s post Croagh Patrick is cheap and cheerful, along the coast is a site called Old Head its 2 min walk to a fantasic beach its just before Louisbugh close to shops pubs, where ever you go in Ireland you will enjoy it . regards doolz
From Dublin, the second time, we drove to Roscrea, about 90 miles and stopped for 1 night on the site there. Personally I don't like Camac, or Dublin for that matter but each to their own.

Hi, Thanks for all your replys. I have just had the info and prices for killarney and they are very high at 41Euros a night for a family of 4 plus awning.
I think i shall try some of your other alternatives.
Hi, we went to Southern Ireland last year for 10 days, based ourselves at the C&C site at Cong on the border between Mayo and Galway. This was ideal as everything we wanted to see in 10 days was within an hour or two's drive from there including Connemara (beautiful), Achill Island, Cliffs of Mhor (we had a great day there, lovely walk along the cliffs) and all the towns round about. Nice wee site, well kept as you'd expect from a C&C site. Also within 5 minutes drive (or half hour walk or so) Ashford Castle, lovely grounds and a smashing restaurant and the pretty village of Cong, (village of "The Quiet Man") that has a couple of pubs (dogs allowed into at least one so great for us) and restaurants.
A day of all things motorhome and campervan. The show is held both in the main indoor arena and across the grounds. Catering, hot drinks and food options are available. Easy access to the site and free parking included. Win one of five pairs of day tickets
