Has anyone been to Camping Le Royan, in Poitou-Charentes, France. I've read elsewhere that it's been running at least 12 years, and the website pics (http://www.camping-royan.com/gb.html) look great (my daughter does like a swimming pool slide! ) but it's not mentioned or reviewed here.

There are loads of quite popular sites which are not yet on this website. It's down to individuals to add them - and I've added quite a few myself over the last few weeks. There are still more quite popular sites NOT ON than on, however, so don't worry that it hasn't been reviewed or mentioned here. I'm sure someone on here will have been, and be along soon to give you some information.
This site is right alongside the main Voie Expresse - Royan ring road which often has lots of traffic. I've never stayed but from the road it looks to have quite a few people who live there. I'd never imagined it had a pool and slides like the picture. There are several places along that road which house travellers vans - some permanent others temporary. Royan can be very busy with traffic July/August. Have a look further up the coast nearer La Palmyre/Les Mathes perhaps? e.g.
Yeah, I get that this site is far from comprehensive, but I think that many people really appreciate the time taken by those who have visited sites who then add reviews.
Camping can so easily be great, or terrible. When you are at the other end of the country, or in a different one altogether, it's not easy to just pack up and go home. I'm always wary of choosing campsites, or anything really in these financially difficult times, that has no user/visitor reviews, and don't want to rely upon owners manufacturers websites. I'm always pleased to get a good feel for a site by reviews from other visitors, especially from this website.
As for Camping le Royan, it's a good point about the road. I am looking at the other sites around Les Mathes. And yes, Camping La Pinede looks good too, especially for a 8 year old with a water slide fixation!

Camping le Royan is a good site - pitches are a bit small though, and although it's not actually on the main road, it's very close and you certainly hear it from the site.
If you're looking at this area, I would suggest Logis du Breuil at St Augustin sur Mer, about 5 miles up the coast. Huge pitches, great for children, pool, restaurant on site, and in a great location which puts you on the right side of Royan for avoiding the busiest traffic.
Don't be put off by references to heavy traffic, it's not that bad, even in August. You may be delayed a bit at really busy times, but it's no worse than the seaside in the UK on a sunny day.
From Logis, you can easily get to the sea via back country roads, and so avoid this.
I was going to recommend Logis too ssssteve, but noticed that you asked for a pool with a slide, which unfortunately Logis doesn't have. However,it does have a great playpark, super-big pitches, a good pool area, and peace and quiet at night-time, with no traffic noise. It's very convenient for the beaches without being busy busy busy.
