Anyone been here? Can you recommend this site or any in the area?

I'm a new member here.  With family (wife and 2 boys aged 2 & 4) we dipped our toes into camping last year and in addition to some trips in the UK want to get some sun as well.  Atlantic Coast of France is a draw because of the surf!

Very grateful for recommendations and have picked up loads of advice already from all the very useful posts.

Thanks!

Hi Shenks, we stayed there a few years back not to our taste, it was very tight to get around with the caravan as it has a lot of trees on site, and not very level, if you are into surfing it looked a good place to go to.

The average age of the user looked fairly young, but I am a bit over the hill, i suppose.

The journey from Bordoux through the forest was a little off putting with all the black markers where accidents had happened, once there the area was good.

We moved on back up the coast to Royan in the end as it was a little more civilised for us, Can be good for surfing up thre as well.

Its better up the coast a bit from Lacanau, I'm guessing the campsite you mention is very expensive. There are cheaper sites in quieter areas up the coast.

Montalivet is nice with a camping municipal within walking distance from the beach & well under 20€ p.n.

If you want to be near the surf, I would recommend the Royan area too, and particularly Le Logis de Breuil. This site would be great for you as first-timers to France, as there's a super park on site for the kids, plus great-sized pitches and good facilities. Your boys would love the pool. The beaches are 10m mins away (Grand Cote) or for more lively surf 20 mins (Cote Sauvage). However, with small children you will need to take care at the Cote Sauvage as there are no lifeguards and the current can be very, very strong.

There are lots of reviews for Logis de Breuil on this site, so have a look. I've been several times so do ask any questions if you need more info.
