It's a while since I last posted , we have been invited to a good friends wedding in Koln in July and thought we would drive over and make a week and a bit of it and take the tent and stay in the North Rhine region, I have found a site called Camping Berger in Rodenkirchen, though I'm open to any advice regarding the region, and also its a while since driving over in Germany, anything I should be aware of?
Cheers
Keith
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
I can't be a lot of help as I only went to Germany with my parents as a teenager and haven't been since I have been caravanning myself. But it gets rid of your sad face at least!
We always used to stay at Country Camping Schinderhannes (sp?) near St Goar on the Rheine. We went a number of times and had some great family holidays. I think it is maybe a bit further south than you were looking at, as it is south of Koblenz, but it was a nice area. We stayed on the Mosel river a couple of times too but I don't recall the site names I am afraid.

Camping Berger in Rodenkirchen
Yes, been there twice, although only in December when we went over for the Xmas markets.
I assume that summertime will be totally different, as we once went around early June, and it looked that packed, that we drove out again! We then went to another campsite on the other side of the Rhine, but can't remember for the life of me what it was called! That was much quieter.
When we've stayed in December, we've been able to pick our pitch, as very few people there, so we were right by the river. A lot of activity on the river, it is used a lot and we found it really good to watch. From the site it is about 10 minutes walk to the busstop, you then change to get the train into town, very good connections.
As far as facilities are concerned, they were always very clean, but in winter they open the so-called winter toiletblock, so I don't know what the summer one is!
If I remember the name of the other site, I will post it later.
Take some ear plugs to enable you to sleep.
Goldene-meile is directly on the Rhine in a ideal location for the area, the Aar Valley and only a couple of hundred yards from the bridge and museum. and the church of the Black Maddonna It is actually on the site of the POW camp.
BUT, on the banks of the Rhine dirctly opposite is a busy railway line so you can expect some rail noise.
