... or slightly to south of ...

We're thinking of travelling from St Etienne (or thereabouts) to Calais and would like to break the journey overnight - either a cheap hotel or, in desperation, a campsite! Does anyone have experience of anywhere roundabout Reims? 

Any comments on the route? A31 and A26 ....

If hotel wanted www.active-hotels.com  put in Reims and your date and all prices will be there.

We have used the Campanile hotel at Tinqueux (western suburb of Reims) many times on route to Switzerland. It's only a couple of minutes from the motorway and is all you need for a stopover. Do not use the Premiere Classe at Murigny to the south of Reims as the walls are paper thin and we were kept awake literally all night on one occasion (I won't elaborate). I can laugh about it now but certainly not at the time and fortunately we didn't have the kids with us on that trip.

               Just been having a look through "Le Guide Officiel 2009 Camping Caravaning" and there are a good dozen or so campsites shown between Reims and Laon, which is slightly North of Reims, although I have already booked one of my overnights at "Camping Municipal en Champagne" which is just South of Reims at Chalons-en-Champagne, I will be winging it for my other 3 overnights, I feel that even in mid July, and just using my BackPacking tent for overnights, should be OK, not had a problem in the past, with not booking overnights.
