Hi there

Planning to spend a night somewhere near Basel on the way down to three weeks camping in Italy.  On my own as kids and wife are flying down next day so doesn't need to have loads of facilities but would be good to be somewhere nice for my "one night off!!"  Does anyone have any recommendations??

Thanks

Geradon

Well for a night off why not treat yourself and stay in an Hotel and enjoy a bit of "you" time.

You do know that if you want to drive thru Switzerland on it's motorways you need to buy an annual vignette for about £23 even if you are just driving thru the country once?

Thought about a hotel (who wouldn't!!) but then thought about the mountains, fresh air, goats roaming free, mountain streams etc and went all "naturey"... just seems simpler to me (that said will probably get a hotel on the way home after three weeks on a camp bed!!)

Also thanks for tip re vignette - have one already from a work trip earlier in the year which is helpful.

I hate to spoil your image of Basel but we don't have mountains or goats!!!  Basel is a city so isn't very scenic compared to other parts of the country. We do have campsites though!

There is one very close to where I live. http://www.camping-waldhort.ch/ My in laws spent a few days here last year visiting us. The owners are very friendly and speak English. There are plenty of places to grab a beer and some food if you don't feel like cooking. You could always drop in for a cup of tea!!!

HTH
