We have just returned from a great trip to France. We had planned to stay at Bonne Anse Plage, using the ACSI card, for some of the holiday in the first week in June. They had been "open" to ACSI card holders for over a month. On arriving on site however, we were told the camping field was not open, it was not ready. However, we were given a choice of half a dozen pitches, all scattered in amongst the permanently sited statics and tents, most of which were unoccupied. It was a bit of a ghost town. The pitches we were offered looked like leftover pitches which were too awkwardly placed to get a static or large tent onto. A Dutch couple were also looking round at the same time as us. We agreed together that it was too depressing, and not at all what we expected. Needless to say, both couples returned to the reception and said "thanks but no thanks".Having said that, we then had a great stay at L'Oree du Bois just up the road using our Camping Cheques, before moving to Nauzan Plage closer to Royan with ACSI card.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Were heading to Bonne Anse Plage in july, since siblu have cocked everything up with pitches, just wondered if anyone has been here so far this year ?,whats the pitches like now? theyve filled up with statics on the old tourer sites
Siblu and FranceLoc tend to do this, we've found. Many of the best sites seem to be going over more and more to statics. One of our favourite sites has done just that, with almost all the beachside pitches now allocated to statics and 'cabins'. These seem to have a very short 'use' season, and hardly any were occupied when we were there in May last year. The remainder of the site was quite full, though, and we were lucky to get one of the last beachside pitches but it does lead to that 'ghost town' feeling on some sites.
Best thing is to leave an up to date review if you've been somewhere which has changed from what you remember - that way people can at least keep up to date with developments on a site.
I can do a review of L'Oree du Bois if anyone is interested, but obviously it will have a whole different feel in peak season to our trip in June. PS it was light til gone 10pm, the pool was open til 8 and it was still sunny on the sunbeds at that time. OK for the Druids........
