Hi everyone, just after some advice on locations and sites for the second stage of our summer family holiday. We are 2 adults and 2 children (11 & 4) and are spending the first 10 days at an all singing, all dancing site in Argeles and ideally want a more low key site somewhere in Provence for the next 10 days.

We're not 'back to basics' campers so still want a pool, bar and shop ideally but also would love somewhere from which we could walk to the nearest town.  I'm aware that lots of sites are already booked up but your thoughts would be really appreciated. I'm currently considering Pegomas in St Remy and Le Soleil de Provence campsites but am open to other ideas. Am also keen to hear thoughts on other areas of France which meet the criterie of beautiful countryside and lots of sun.

Many thanks in advance - Julia

if you head inland away from the coasts your choice will be wider and the sites less crammed, have a look on the camp site search on here then google the address and look at the google map satellite view of the site and area, we do this to see what the area and pitches are like, it does spoil the surprise a bit though!!

Les Romarins in Maussane-les-Alpilles, near St Rémy, is in the village with a good range of shops and restaurants within walking distance. It is next door to the local pool. It is handy for loads of other places to visit. We used to go to St Rémy but started going to Maussane a few years ago as we liked the site there better, and it's a ten minute drive or a short bus trip from St Rémy.

Carpe Diem seems to be a good site. Vaison is a lovely busy town with lots going on.

Like the area. St Remy is lovely. Visit chateau des baux if you get the chance. Go early. They have some fantastic events on if you get your timing right.

Market day in St Remy is lovely too - a real French market, with no too much 'tourist' stuff!

Buy some lovely olive oil from one of the many Producteurs around - and the roman remains at Glanum are worth a visit too - like a mini-Ephesus!

Thanks everybody. I'm afraid I detoured a bit and am now staring at Lei Suves near Roquebrone. Will def go visit St Remy though. If anyone has anything good to say about Lei Suves, would be nice to here.

Happy camping

Hi, We stayed at Lei Suves last August for 10 nights, the site is ok, the pitches are varied in size, ask for a large one, some have difficult access due to narrow roads and trees planted on the entrance to them! some manual maneovering of a caravan will no doubt be needed. The ground is very hard, don't expect normal pegs to go in!. there's a vineyard next door, take empty containers to fill up (Domain du Blavet, lovely wine and cheap) Pool is big enough and warm, shorts are ok, some entertainment at night, Lidl s/market 5 mins away, Frejus beach 20 mins.

Biggest let down was how crammed in you are, we do like our space! however Cote d Azur in August is busy anyway.

Its also very hot, expect 35deg daytime and prob 25 at night and unbroken sunshine...mmmmmmm!

if you need to know more let me know
