Just a word of warning for anyone wanting a stopover hotel mid way through France. We stayed at the Premiere Classe just outside Troyes, about an hour above Dijon. Not great - dirty, smelly and not recommended.

Thanks for that, we stayed at the F1 in Troyes (Barberey), spotless and superb breakfast, total cost for was £36.36 for the night, well worth the money, we were heading for the Southern Ardeche, so a nice break to the journey, we even had a slap up meal at the Casino restaurant, which is 100 yards walk from the F1, total cost including wine and beers, was £20.04 for the two of us, we had a kind of chicken breast in wine sauce, with assorted veg and chips and a stonking Creme Brulea for puds, OK that was £50 for an overnight stop, but well worth it.

Andy.

we  stayed at the Premiere Classe outside Troyes ( on the way to the Ardeche too)    This was a couple of years ago any way to cut a long story short the kids locked themselves out of their room late at night .Their wasnt anydody to be found no manger night staff it was as if they had all  vanished it was really spookie .The kids were really spooked because i had just been telling them ghost stories as we had walked round the empty medieval back streets in Troyes.   Anyroadup we managed to get in because the kids had left a window slightly ajar and we used the long bike rack to hook open the door handle . This took over an hour and still couldnt get over the fact not a sole to be found anywhere

.   so maybe all the cleaners have now vanished too 17

Sounds about right, we found it really odd and disconcerting that there was nobody about either.  Have emailed a letter of complaint but not expecting a great response really. On the way down we stopped at a different chain in Nuits St George ?! and that was fine.
