Hi campers.Does anyone know where I can obtain a copy of Municipal Campsites Of France by Nick Curtis- Botting? I have tried W.H.Smiths but they say it is out of print. We had a great seven weeks in France when I retired in June , so much that we are going next year but want to stick to municipal sites. Is there any other books that cover these sites?....................Tanks to all.....Rainmaker

I was looking for the same book last year, it was last published 2006, and I have yet to find a copy, anyway I did get hold of "Le Guide Officiel Camping Caravan" which is an excellent book featuring 10340! campsites, with Municipals highlighted, it's available from http://www.vicarious-shop.co.uk/view_product.php?c_id=2&sc_id=&p_id=36

Yes it is a handy book but it lacks comments on quality like you get in the Caravan Club book. Also although it lists them all it often lacks info on prices, opening dates, and other info like directions to sites etc. I'd recommend the CC book which is available to non members too. Most municips of any decent standard are listed there.
Really useful comments like, "friendly helpful owners, excellent value, difficult access, nice loos, neglected in low season, etc etc make this book invaluable. If you are not a mamber of CC a member might buy it for you at a better price (if you know one, of course)

I agree, the 'Le guide oficiel' is a fab book.....particualarly if you are travelling about and just want to see if there is a site in the area. It was invaluable to us this summer when we had to try and find a site when everywhere on the coast seemed to be booked up!!!
I find that although it doesn't have directions if you choose a site then it is easy to google with the area code address that is on each listing to find how to get there.
We bought our friends the Guide Officiel this year - and they said it was the most useful of all the books they had. We'd also given them an old copy of our Caravan Europe (Caravan Club), Alan Rogers, and Camping Cheques guides - but the comprehensive site listings of the Guide Officiel made it so much easier to find local sites.

We love the Guide officiel too, go regularly to France at all times of the year, and have never yet booked a site, but using the book, you can phone ahead to check availability, if you are nervous!
Just had a look on Vicarous Books and that book says 'sold out'. Wonder when/if it will be back in stock. I must admit, i use my CC Caravan Europe 1 alot.
Dont forget that if you have a satnav unit you can load them into it (usually) we find it a godsend, just find the municipal and press "navigate to" takes you straight to the door (sometimes!!!)
