Most important, have you got a pet passport for your collie? If not get one as soon as possible because they can't travel back into the UK unless they've had their passport for 6 months.
Have a good holiday
------------- If my post appears offensive just ignore me - sometimes my medication does not work :)
have a look in camping abroad, alternatively when we are looking for sites i france i look on the key camp and euro camp sites, get the name of the site and then book direct with them.do you know what region you are planning on visiting?
------------- A tent is like a newborn born baby..... to some they all look the same..... but if its yours it's beautiful.

Willows - Laceby March
Lee Valley - London May
Nanctol Wales June
Croatia September
undecided October
Order a Vacansoleil brochure too, our holiday booked through them worked out cheaper than booking direct with the site this year. It's also useful for working out how far places are from Calais as it prints them on the sites brochure pages.
Alan o - Give us a few clues - area? how far do you wan to drive? do you want entertainment and bars/restaurant or quiet? Do you have a price in mind? July/August?

If you're going for better weather then the further South you go, the better. That said if you did travel to the Dordogne (which is excellent) you might need to split your journey over 2 days. You need to consider if you want beach or riverside location? Sites with river access are great for dogs as they can cool down easily.
Once you decide on a region, you can start narrowing it down to a site.
------------- Are you sure you've read the instructions?
A bit further south from the Dordogne is the Tarn Gorge - absolutely wonderful location. Scenic, lots of river fun and loads of smashing campsites to choose from. We did the Tarn Gorge and the Dordogne this year enjoyed them both. Would definately return to both areas. Also did Normandy but didn't like it as much.
We did a split between the Loire (near Tours) and Dordogne-ish (Brive) this year with hotel stopovers on the way to and from Calais so that each leg of the journey between port-hotel-campsite-campsite-hotel-port was only a few hours. In the past we've tended to do Calais-Dordogne in one hit but it does take many hours and we've tended to arrive on site in the early evening. The weather in Loire was perfect this year during August and got slightly warmer when we moved south. If you want a suitable site that has facilities for entertaning teenagers (my two are 12&13) then I would suggest looking at the Castel sites. These do tend to be dearer but you're paying for a certain standard of facilities.
