I am looking for some help . I am planning a family camping trip to France in July 2010 and will be taking all my own gear towed in a trailer.
Therefore I am looking for some where to stop over for the night in France, about 1 to 2 hours in distance from Calais.
I was looking for a site where I could hire a tent or caravan for a night so I don't have to set up my own tent for such a short time. I have chose this instead of using a hotel as I will be able to keep my trailer secured beside me.
Does anyone have any suggestions, recommendations of where to stay or any better ideas? I will be travelling from Scotland and need to break the drive.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Cheers

Couple of suggestions at Wimereux next to Boulogne about 5mins off Autoroute if you are going down A16(it would help to state your direction after leaving Calais)
here & here campsites next to each other, both rent mobile homes but may be reluctant to reserve for 1 night in peak season which would be the case wherever you want to stay. A better idea might be to buy a couple of Quecha popup tents & use them for overnights.
We have stayed in the budget Formula 1 hotel chain. They often have secure parking, with the car park locked at night, you have an access code for your room which lets you into the car park and the hotel too. The hotel is usually centrally positioned in the car park, with car parking around the edge, so you can often park with your car directly outside your own room. The rooms are no-frills, but it's cheap and easy to book( and also to cancel if plans change, without incurring a charge)
Like minicamper2001, we use the budget hotels for the overnights, as we do two overnights each way in France, this year we used a mix of F1's and B&B's both excelent chains with secure parking, for 2010 we are using "Premiere Classe" (booked all 4 already!) a little cheaper than B&B's but not as basic as the F1's, as they have en-suite, so much less hassle than setting your kit up for one night, and makes for an early start and late finish if needed.

Hi, we wanted to do this on our trip to France last year but could not find anyone who would rent out mobile home/tent for just one night so on the way out we used our own gear at a small campsite with pool, this was good for the kids and the campsite was lovely BUT even though we took a smaller tent to use we felt it was hard work and wouldn't do it again(unless stopping for a couple of nights). On the way back we used the BBhotel and that was very good ,our car was right outside the room window in a locked carpark. Would definately do this again.

I think you'll find your trailer is probably safer outside a French hotel than with you in a British service area! Many families use the budget hotel option - there are several chains of these sort of hotels - Formule 1 at the bottom, and rising in facilities and price. You can find links to most of them here.
The cost would be a little more than a budget hotel but it is comfortable and has a good little restaurant. The proprieter speaks English and is very pleasant and helpful.
No secure parking but I would imagine that due to the remoteness your gear should be fairly safe. Not too far from the Autoroute.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
