well I'm planning a trip to new zealand and am a bit unsure on a few things, and thought someone may know the answers.

I am thinking of using a small car for the north island and using motels, then crossng to the south as a foot passenger and picking up a camper in Picton.

Is this possible and if so, is it worth while, anyone know how much i would expect to pay for a motel room compared to a campsite pitch?

Will there much choce of rental vans at Picton, the ones I've loked at on the net seem to pickup at Auckland or Christcurch.

One other thing, will my UK mobile work in NZ or will I need to hire one out there.
