Thanks for all the help we have now picked a site in the Saumur area,
More questions sorry,
We are looking for a nice site around half way to stay for a day or two with a bit to do and explore, Not really bothered about clubs/pool etc just somewhere nice to relax and take in a bit of French culture,
thanks again herald.

We stayed at Rambouillet (the Huttopia site) half way between Chartres and Versailles. Had a day at each place.
It is quite an unusual site with an eco-pool, and what looks like a cowboy encampment with wagons and wooden chalets with canvas roofs.
My other suggestion would be to stop the other side of Paris and have a day with Walt Disney.
Halfway would put you between Rouen & Alencon, not really very interesting, just countryside. There is a camping municipal at Sees which is ok. Alternativly if you want to stop off for a couple of days. There is a cheap & popular campsite at Neufchatel-en-Bray just off the A28, 20 miles before Rouen. This is within easy reach of the Normandy coast, with a cycle route if you want it & would be more interesting.
There's a nice municipal site at Beaumont s/Sarthe, just north of Le Mans. So around an hour and a half to two hours from Saumur. We've recommended it to lots of guests making their way either north or south, and they've all said it's a lovely place.
Hi herald1, depends which route you take after Rouen I suppose. We've tried them both but generally go via Chartres, Chateaudun and Vendome. There is a fair site for an overnighter at Bonneval which is about half way, although if you are staying for a couple of days I think I would try to make it as far as Amboise. Decent site at Amboise itself or a couple of simple but clean ones at Nazelles Negron, and at Onzain. Happy holiday.
Booked the ferry tonite only £98 return, quite pleased with that, booked the site in Saumur, just need to sort a stop off en route. Think its time to get the map out, roll on July...
Hi Herald, off topic a bit but can I ask what you thought of Du Letty as we are booked to go there in July? Do I take it that you are not keen to go back there?
------------- I am addicted to this forum! I can't get any work done!

We would go back to du letty again, the site is really good as the reviews on this site suggest, we had a fantastic 14nights their with sun for most of the time and met lots of nice people.
The reason we are not going back are that money is a bit tight so we can't justify the cost of the crossing to St Malo like we did that year and we don't fancy the drive from dunkirk, and we like to try a different area/country each year.
I hope and think you will enjoy du letty we certainly did,
