I think that perhaps there may have been periods when twin axles weren't accepted because of the condition of the pitches.  Because of ground conditions at Gandspette some pitches were badly damaged with deep rutting, after a long period of rain.  Perhaps the site didn't allow twin axles at that time, because they can cause more damage to a softened pitch than a single axle.

Only a theory - but we noticed on our last visit that there are increasing numbers of 'rejuvenated' pitches at Gandspette - some with that 'parking mesh' where the grass grows through a plastic structure, and some which have been turned into gravel hardstandings.
