Got a problem, and would appreciate advice.  We have previously travelled (car and caravan) Poole-Cherbourg-Poole. Apparently, Brittany Ferries have sold the ferry Barfleur, and as a result we have been directed to the Portsmouth-Caen-Portsmouth route.

Going out, we land around 9:30 pm at Ouistreham, and coming back home, the ferry leaves Ouistreham at 08:30 am.

Looking at what overnight camping may be available, and reading some of the reviews, it seems as though Parc Municipale is best avoided, and Haute Couture sounds a good option.  But I have doubts that they would accept arriving after 10:00 pm or leaving between 06:00am and 07:00am for the return ferry.

Are there any alternatives that other caravanners have found satisfactory; safety and security being the prime considerations.  Helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Bertie.

Bertie,

Let me reassure you that Les Hautes Couture is totally geared to all the ferry arrivals and departures at Ouistreham. We've used it each time we have used the very same sailings as you without a single problem.

There is a keypad operated gate so early morning departures are not a problem.

As I mentioned before Les Hautes Coutures is now listed in the Carefree brochure as not accepting arrivals after 10pm.

I e mailed the site today and they said they are not accepting caravans after 10 pm but you can leave any time during the day.  Was  hoping to use them this summer.

You should still make the site from the ferry terminal by 10pm. At most it's 10 minutes away. We've found that caravans come off the ferry first along with the lorries - that's if you're on the "Mont Saint Michel" anyway.

Perhaps they have found that all the booked arrivals are on site by 10pm or before and that staying open after this time is unnecessary.
