we are starting from Cherboug travelling to Agde, can anyone suggest some campsites/Aires we could stay in on our way down,we are not trevelling on toll roads.Arriving in Cherbourg 12th April(cant wait)

As you don't give your route it's a bit difficult to suggest campsites along the way. ViaMichelin can give you a 'toll-free' route if you select it in the available options, and it suggests a route which takes you towards Dreux from Cherbourg and then down the N154 and N9 which is a route we often use (though we're coming from Calais, via Abbeville).
There are campsites along the way, but you need to check that they'll be open in early April as many French sites have very short seasons. One we stay at is Camping Municipal at Nevers and that does open on the 9th April 2010. We've also stayed at Camping de Sologne at Salbris at that too is open from the 1st April. We've also stayed at Camping de Neuvre at Chatel Neuvre which is open on the 1st April.
All these sites are in the 'middle' section of the route recommended by Viamichelin, and perhaps someone else can recommend sites nearer to Cherbourg.
If you want to stop again further south then I'd recommend Millau. It's just off the non-toll A75 which is a good autoroute, and there will be lots of sites open and available at that time of year. Also you get to see the Millau viaduct from the best possible viewpoints, and most of the sites are in a lovely setting by the River Tarn or Dourbie.
many thanks, will look into the sites, we made a big mistake last October and travelled all the way from Clermont Ferrand on the Toll Road, cost us a fortune, didnt realise you had to pay from there on, we wont make that mistake again. We are going for 10 weeks and hope the weather will be kind.
We always use toll roads and find that they are reasonable value. Ok I know we don't pay over here but french motorways are a pleasure to drive unlike ours and you can eat up the miles pretty quickly.
Each to their own.

Started camping last year and it's been a great crack, have changed tent twice, purchased, it feels like, every conceviable gadget plus tow bar and trailer once the boot and roof box did not cope I do wonder if it would not have been easier to book Florida for a month.
Anyway, in for a penny etc etc, were off to France next year, we have travelled the South West coast of france previously, Royan, Biarritz, Rochelle but never camped. Any good recomendations for this region. We will be going in he summer holidays, two kids aged 11 and 9 so keeping them busy is essential, we have a studland 8 so big pitch required. Hope you can help. Best Wishes
