Very jealous! But are you camping there? I'm just being nosy. Sorry I can't help with info, have only been to La Manga on the C&CC rally ( and loved it)
hi-no, we aren't camping-although we will be camping in France later in May. We have been invited to stay at a friends house, and I just thought I'd ask on this forum because everyone seems so knowledgeable about EVERYTHING! Actually we have only seen one campsite near there but after having looked around it last year I wouldn't stay there-it was near St. Javier airport?
Cabo de Palos, which is near La Manga is worth a visit, as is Cartagena. There is a naval museum there, and the site of a gun emplacement a la Guns of Navarone.
Torrevieja market, on a Friday is very busy, but parking is difficult, so think of taking the bus in. The market is vey near the bus station.
Usual warning about purses, wallets and bags apply, but this is the case for any busy place around the world.
Worth having a look at the harbour front, and pop into the rear bar in the Casino on the front. Very interesting architecturally and reasonably priced. It is actually one of the cultural centres for the town rather than a gambling place.
Regards,
Jim.

My mum has a flat just south of Torrevieja which we sometimes stay at. However, we only really go for the sun, so spend most of the time by the beach or pool. Apart from Torrevieja, there isn't much in that area, IMO (we went to Cartagena and were very disappointed - a very drab place, considering it's historical signifigance).
Much as I enjoy the weather in Spain, I wouldn't go there for any other reason. I'm not a particular fan of churches/museums etc and I just don't find Spain a pretty place to be, especially compared to the Peak District, the Lakes, Snowdonia etc. Not their fault, obviously, but the great weather means, IMO, that the country looks like a desert. I quite like walks, cycling and picnics and I just can't imagine doing that in Spain.

I agree with you Nelmo regarding walking , cycling etc in Spain, we are only there though for a few weeks then we are going to France to tour around inland until July school holidays. I guess that's when we will be doing the activities, we'll just do the pool/beach thing in Spain.... Thanks for your reply though, regards, carmel
There are plenty of cycle routes and walks of all descriptions in the area. go into the local tourist information office as they usually have maps and such. They will also give you an idea of what's in the area and any local markets. Also, there are some really lovely picnic areas all over Spain, if you look for them but if all you do is sit by the pool, you'll never find them. As for weather, it's a bit cloudy and cool at the moment but i'm hoping it will warm up as the 2 weeks previous it was really hot, so I'm hoping it improves again soon. Jan
