Is the campsite under new management or have you recently done a lot of work on it? The reason I ask is that we stayed there for one night in September 2008 and it was very basic - a small field by the river with one toilet and shower and only one electric hookup! I'm not complaining, as it was fine for one night, but it sounds like you've made tremendous improvements since then.

Yes it has improved a lot since you were here. It now has three toilets/showers, toilet waste disposal, two outside sinks and two inside. It has a kitchen and lounge with internet access and wi fi, Sat TV.
The land has been cleared along the river making room for more caravans etc. More hookups and outside lights.
We'd like to return to Bulgaria as we found it very interesting. Unfortunately the main campsite guidebooks such as The Caravan Club and Alan Rogers don't list any campsites in Bulgaria, which makes planning ahead difficult. Also in some places the roads were a bit bumpy! After leaving Trinity Rocks we drove over the Shipka Pass which was a bit hairy as low cloud meant poor visibility, and later we drove through Simeonovgrad where all the streets were cobbled - we thought the caravan would shake to pieces! But it's a country with a lot of interesting historical sites and the people we met were very friendly.

There are a lot of new campsites in Bulgaria, alot run by english people. Sakar hills Campsite is one near the Turkish Boarder.
The main roads have improved alot, but early spring is particularly bad before they do the annual repairs after the winter.
Veliko Tarnovo is said to be one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It is certainly beautiful and full of history.
