Don't even think of trying to fill up in France if you are travelling on a Sunday. It's closed.

None of my UK cards would work in the self service pumps.

Fortunately, a friendly local let me use his card and I gave him the cash.

The advantage though is that the roads are very quiet on Sundays.

UK cards now work in all Auchan/Simply Market & Carrefour 24/24 pumps & all others that I have tried. This has been the case for the last couple of yrs.

This imformation is incorrect & out of date by at least 2yrs. All supermarket 24/24 pumps I have tried now take UK cards & some LeClercs that refused my credit card always took my debit card. Many supermarkets, particularly those in holiday areas are open Sunday mornings, including the manned pumps.

No card is infalliable & one should always travel abroad with 2 debit cards & 2 credit cards(1 visa, 1 mastercard if poss.)
