The best recommendation you can get is from a local. If you ask they will tell you exactly where to go. No offence to supermarkets but they don't stock the best wine here neither do they do in France

but how many of us actually buy the  BEST   I don't    I buy what I like at the price I want to pay   there is a big difference 'twixt the twain    

but you are right   ask the locals     we watch them in the supermarkets to see what is being bought and what is not     even talk to them about what is good and what is not

If you are in a decent wine producing region you can pick up some real bargains or get something good for christmas etc. Ee generally try to get a few really good bottles direct from producers for special occasions and then a case or two of normal plonk(ish) stuff for normal glugging.

Its wine..you just drink it. I generally find the more you pay, the better it is. Any supermarket in France has a massive selection of wine marked out by regions & half UK prices. Anything from 3€ up always seems ok to me.

I find the 'vin de pays' for about 2€ for 1.5litre plastic bottle is usually quite drinkable as well, although the more discerning palate might only use it for cooking.
