Sounds like a plan, we always drive down to Dover, setting of from home around 06:00hrs, and always book a 16:00hrs crossing, although we have never caught that sailing, as we always get to the port for an earliar crossing, and do our first overnight just South of Dunkerque, F1 or B&B budget hotel, this year have decided to go for a "Premiere Class" hotel, they are under £40 for the night, anyway as your planning to stay on this side of the channel, somthing I have never done, the only cheapy hotel I can think of is the F1 at either Barking or Thurrock, again under £40 and both with secure gated parking, but may be to far out from Dover for you.
