Hi,
Off to Tuscany on the 9th June, going via Calais with my large twin axle Elddis Crusader Super Sirroco. To avoid tolls Michelin recommends going via Belgium/ Luxembourg/Switzerland, suits me but has any member used this route through the Gotthard Pass via the Seelisberg and Gotthard tunnels? what are the roads like with a large outfit? Any help please
------------- John Boy

You will not travel via the Gotthard Pass if you use the tunnel which is the motorway for which you will need vignettes. The Swiss motorways are well engineered and are no problem for outfits of any size.
The route you mention is toll free to Metz then there are two toll sections to Strasbourg, then free after that to Basle. You can travel from Metz via Nancy, Epinal and Than to Mulhouse which is toll free. There is section of single carriageway road along this road (N66) after Epinal to a few miles before Mulhouse but it is part of the E road network used by LGVs(HGVs) and is an easy road. There are a series of hairpins down off the Col du Bussang but we have never had a problem either up of down.
------------- Enjoy yourself. Whatever you're doing!!

You can get a vignette from here -

Swiss travel service in London, delivery in a couple of days, saves a lot of time at the frontier.
